Welcome to iHeEaR!
The Institute for Human Exposure Education and Research (iHeEaR) was started in November 2005 by Dr. Neil E. Klepeis to provide information over the World Wide Web to researchers, health care providers, and the general public on the science of human exposure to environmental contaminants. We mostly focus on anthropogenic sources of airborne pollution in local environments, such as secondhand tobacco smoke in homes.
Our mission is to offer materials, including free software, research articles, and tutorials, that reflect up-to-date findings in the field of human exposure. We offer technical materials, as well as those for a general audience.
In the spirit of openness fostered by the internet age, our materials are made available under free licenses, such as the GNU General Public License, the GNU Free Documentation License, or one of a number of Creative Commons Licenses.
Our work is supported by academic research grants from federal, state, and local agencies. We are located near Santa Cruz, California USA.
We are just getting started!! But we have already laid the foundation with two new websites, which contain interactive simulation models, freely-available software, and research documents.
- The Exposure Science Website hosts research quality software, datasets, and a variety of documents in Adobe PDF format.
- The Exposure Science Wiki is just getting off the ground, but it will contain a variety of articles that explain concepts and recent findings in the field of human exposure assessment.
- The SimSmoke.Org Website hosts interactive simulations of human exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke in homes, cars, and other locations.
